Along with Monday’s district championship games, three area girls teams were competing in consolation games as Stone Memorial defeated Upperman, 47-39 and Jackson County defeated Watertown, 38-31.
Stone Memorial was led by 12 points from Kortney Headrick followed by 10 from Adison Howard and 9 by Rachel Houston. Gracie Butler led Upperman with 19 points in the loss.
Upperman jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first quarter before Stone Memorial battled back to take a 22-21 lead at halftime. The Lady Panthers took control in the second half as they took an 11-point lead late in the third quarter, at 36-25.
The Lady Bees cut their deficit to 5 points (36-31) early in the fourth quarter before Stone Memorial again pushed ahead by double figures at 46-34 with 2:30 remaining. Stone Memorial held on to win by a 47-39 final score.
Upperman will travel to District 8-3A champion Tullahoma for the first round of the Region 4-3A tournament Friday at 7 p.m. while Stone Memorial travels to Central Magnet.
In District 5-2A, Jackson County’s Jalynn Meadows led the Lady Devils with 16 points along with 10 by Claire Williams.
Jackson County held a 7-4 lead after one quarter and pushed ahead by 6 points at halftime, 19-13.
The Lady Devils led by 7 points (23-16) before Watertown fought back within one possession at 23-20 with 4:40 left in the third quarter.
Jackson County never surrendered their lead as they extended their advantage to eight points (30-22) with 4:45 remaining. The Lady Devils held on to defeat Watertown, 38-31.
Jackson County will travel to Trousdale County for the first round of the Region 3-3A tournament on Friday at 7 p.m.
