Class 3A Miss Basketball Winner Celeste Reed Signs With Morehead State

White County High School senior Celeste Reed’s decorated basketball career will continue at the next level as she signed with Morehead State University Wednesday morning.

“It’s so awesome,” said Reed. “I’m so excited and glad that I’ve got the opportunity to do this.”

Reed was named Class 3A Miss Basketball during her senior season along with the District 7-3A MVP. Reed scored over 1,400 career points and pulled down over 1,000 rebounds during her four years in Sparta.

“She’s had a great career that’s going to go down in the history books here at White County,” said White County head coach Michael Dodgen. “She gave us so many opportunities to score because of her rebounding ability. She could score, get to the rim and shoot the three. You can’t teach that.”

Reed’s official offer from Morehead State, a Division 1 program in Morehead, KY, came during her Miss Basketball award ceremony.

“They called me, but I had given my phone to my parents,” said Reed. “I had talked to them a little before, but I didn’t think they’d call me that night. I had a few options, but I went up there and really liked the environment and coaches. I knew that’s where I wanted to go.”

Reed is the first Miss Basketball winner in White County history.

“It’s fantastic for our program,” said Dodgen. “With her and Gracie (Dodgen) a few years ago, we’ve had two kids go to the Division 1 level the last few years. It continues that tradition.”

Despite her high school success, Reed sees room for improvement before her freshman season with the Eagles.

“I need to work on conditioning,” said Reed. “It’s a lot faster paced and a lot more running.”

“It’s a great opportunity for her,” added Dodgen. “When push comes to shove, there’s going to be a lot of programs that missed out. You can’t replace heart, and Morehead State saw in her.”
