Cookeville High Schools seniors Katie Rohr and Leah Stransky put a bow on their final season of Lady Cavalier tennis Friday morning as they finished as runners-up in the TSSAA Class AA state tennis meet.
Rohr and Stransky fell in the state championship match to Tennessee High School’s Trinity Moore and Ellyson Kovacs, 2-0.
“Obviously we’re a little sad,” said Rohr. “I’m really proud of Leah and myself for getting here and representing Cookeville. Our opponents were really good and played a great match. We played hard and fought the best we could.”
Their runner-up finish wraps up a state tournament run by Cavalier tennis that included the boys and girls teams making state, Rohr and Stranksy competing as doubles and Adeleine Moore competing in singles.
“I’ve been teaching Katie for her whole life and Leah since the fourth grade,” said Cookeville tennis coach Brian Rohr. “It means more to have them. The four seniors we have are just special and changed the Cookeville program.
Rohr and Stranksy defeated South Gibson in the quarterfinals and Collierville in the semis on Thursday to advance to Friday’s championship.
“It was a lot of work,” said Stransky. “I’ve been out for two years and coming back to make it to a state championship was a lot of work. But with the help of my coach and teammates it was very encouraging.”
