5-PEAT: Livingston Academy Girls Soccer Defeats Stone Memorial 4-0 For 5th Consecutive District Championship

The Livingston Academy Lady Wildcats won their 5th consecutive district championship Thursday evening as they defeated Stone Memorial in the District 7-2A title game, 4-0.

“I feel like we started off pretty strong and they couldn’t stop our momentum,” said Livingston Academy head coach Heather Marshall. “I knew we’d find the back of the net eventually with how we were playing.”

Livingston Academy (12-2-2) finished a clean sweep over District 7-2A opponents Thursday as they’ve outscored league opponents 58-1 in 2024.

The Lady Wildcats scored first via a goal from the right side by District 7-2A MVP Taryn Childers with 21:22 remaining in the first half. Livingston extended their lead to 2-0 with 9:28 left as Tara Hinds scored a goal off a corner kick to give LA a 2-0 lead at the break.

“We were connecting well and playing to feet,” said Childers. “A few times we got a little antsy with our passes, but once we realized how to place our through-balls, the shots were going in and we were feeling it.”

“Taryn is a big part of our success,” said Marshall. “Of course one person doesn’t make a team, but having her on our side is an advantage no other team is going to have. The support she has around her pushes her even harder.”

Selah Howard and Mallori Lindsay connected on shots for two goals in the second half to secure Livingston’s 4-0 victory.

Freshman keeper Chloe Dial and the Lady Wildcat defense pitched their 12th shutout of the season in the win.

“Our defense is super important,” said Childers. “I don’t tell them a lot, but I should. I give them all the credit and I’m glad they did amazing tonight.”

Up next for both Livingston Academy and Stone Memorial is the Region 4-2A tournament next week. Livingston will host District 8-2A runner-up Tullahoma while Stone Memorial will travel to 8-2A champion Franklin County.

“We’re going to run into some heavy hitters,” said Marshall. ” Both Franklin County and Tullahoma are ranked top-10 in the state. Us seeing a good start today was critical going forward.”
