The Region 4-2A volleyball championship trophy is headed to Crossville as the Stone Memorial Lady Panthers defeated Cumberland County in the region championship game in 5 sets, with the fifth coming down to a 17-15 final score.
Crossville will be well represented in the Class 2A sectional round as both teams will play on Thursday afternoon for a berth in the Class 2A state volleyball tournament.
Both programs earned their substate berths by winning their respective Region 4-2A tournament semifinal matchups on Tuesday. Stone Memorial opened Tuesday’s play with a sweep of Central Magnet, followed by Cumberland County defeating Community in the second semifinal, 3-1, setting up an all-Crossville region championship game in Murfreesboro.
It was Stone Memorial who emerged victorious in their fourth meeting with CCHS of the season, this time for a Region 4-2A championship in 5 sets. Tuesday’s region championship win avenges a loss to Cumberland County in last week’s District 7-2A championship game.
Stone Memorial will host Region 3-2A runner-up Soddy Daisy on Thursday at 6 p.m. while Cumberland County travels to Region 3-2A champion Signal Mountain.
