The Stone Memorial Lady Panthers wrapped up their 2024 volleyball season Thursday night as they fell in the Class 2A sectional round to Soddy Daisy in 5 sets.
Thursday’s win secured a Class 2A state tournament berth for the visiting Lady Trojans, while Stone Memorial finishes their 2024 campaign at 23-15 overall. The Lady Panthers added multiple trophies to their collection this season including the Region 4-2A championship and District 7-2A runner-up.
A kill by Lauren Clark secured a 25-19 first-set victory for the Lady Panthers. Soddy Daisy answered in the second set by winning the frame 31-29 to tie the contest at 1-1.
Soddy Daisy took control of the contest by winning the third set 25-18 before the Lady Panthers responded by winning the fourth, 25-15, via a Lucy Grothe kill.
The Lady Trojans jumped out to an 11-5 lead in the fifth set before Stone Memorial answered with a 5-1 run to cut their deficit to 12-10 on a Grothe block.
Soddy Daisy regained control and closed out the fifth set by a 15-11 final score to secure a berth in the Class 2A state tournament next week.
