EXPERT PREDICTIONS Presented by TLT Sports Performance: Playoffs 1st Round

Playoffs First Round

Noah 93-12 (10-0)

Justin 89-16 (9-1)

Goose 89-16 (9-1)

Jacob 87-18 (10-0)

GOTW: Macon County at Soddy Daisy

Noah: Macon County 42-28

The size of Soddy Daisy up front could present some challenges for the Tigers, but I don’t see any reason why Macon can’t score at the clip we’ve seen over the last month. I think the Tigers set up the rematch in Baxter we’ve all been waiting for.

Justin: Macon County 31-24

Congratulations on your home playoff game, Soddy Daisy, your reward is 8-2 Macon County with a backfield full of legitimate speed and weapons. Macon County has all the tools to get it done down in Soddy.

Goose: Macon County 35-7

The Macon County of old showed up in Crossville last week, and think the Tigers take that success a little further southeast to Soddy Daisy on Friday. When Macon’s hot, I think they’re one of the best teams in Class 4A. No reason to not be amped up for a road playoff game, so give me the Tigers big.

Jacob: Macon County 35-14

Macon County has struggled with one thing this season: size. Soddy Daisy has lots of size. If the Tigers can negate that size with their speed and execution they’ll be just fine and most likely get the Bees in the rematch next week.

UCR 2: Red Bank at White County

Noah: White County 35-21

A healthier Tripp Pinion and Cole Sims is a huge boost for Sparta. An athletic Red Bank squad presents trouble, but I think Sparta leans on their physical identity as they win the ballgame.

Justin: White County 28 Red Bank 24

Sparta in the postseason is a magical place in any sport, and I think that’s the difference for Coach Beaty’s squad tonight against a good Red Bank team.

Goose: White County 27-21

If White County is firing on all cylinders, the Warriors can run away with this game. Health across the board is key, and White County has had almost a month to adjust their offense to a limited Tripp Pinion. I think the Warriors squeak out a classic at Dee Harris.

Jacob: White County 28-14

Obviously this score is dependent on the health of Tripp Pinion, but the Warriors are the better football team. Red Bank will be a good test, but if White County sticks to what they’ve been doing the second half of the regular season I think they’ll be just fine.

UCR 3: Signal Mountain at Upperman

Noah: Upperman 42-6

Upperman is the best 4A team in the state. Next.

Justin: Upperman 49 Signal Mountain 7

Noah said all I need to say. Bees as bad as they want.

Goose: Upperman 42-0

Upperman enters the playoffs undefeated (again) and hosts a 6-4 Signal Mountain team that looks good on paper. The Eagles are certainly a capable football team, but it’ll take more than capable to win in the Hive in November. Upperman should control this one from the start.

Jacob: Upperman 42-0

Signal Mountain is not a bad football team. Upperman is an elite football team. The Eagles don’t have the size nor the speed to match the Bees and Upperman should be able to handle business pretty easily this evening.

UCR 4: Cookeville at Riverdale

Noah: Riverdale 28-14

I need to see Cookeville win one of these games to pick them. The athleticism of Riverdale is among the state’s best. The Cavs will have to start fast to hang tough in this one.

Justin: Riverdale 24 Cookeville 21

Cookeville has a big challenge in Murfreesboro tonight, and even though I think the Cavs can hang with them, it’s hard to leave the ‘Boro with a win.

Goose: Riverdale 35-28

Riverdale has a potent offense and will be tough almost any defense to stop. I think Cookeville connects on some big splash plays on offense and can take the game to the wire, but I’ll take the Warriors in a close one.

Jacob: Riverdale 35-21

This is a huge opportunity for the Cavaliers to pick up their biggest win of the Coach Hennigan era. It’ll be tough as the Warriors have the best defense that Cookeville will have faced this season with a nod to Green Hill as well. The first quarter of this game will decide it for Cookeville. If they get off to a fast start I feel a lot better about their chances.
