The second round of the TSSAA playoffs wrapped up Friday night with four Upper Cumberland teams advancing to the quarterfinal round next week.
Clay County
Clay County took down Whitwell in the Class 1A playoffs 39-27 behind a historic performance from quarterback Nate Adams, who went 19-28 for 471 yards and 5 touchdowns through the air. Lance Burchett posted 303 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns for the Bulldogs in the victory. The Bulldogs improve to 10-2 overall and host South Pittsburg next week in the quarterfinal round.
White County
White County went on the road and left Loudon with a 28-0 shutout victory over the Redskins for the first second-round playoff win in school history. The Warriors allowed only one first down all night en route to a shutout, and will return home to Dee Harris Field to host Macon County in the Class 4A quarterfinals on Friday.
York Institute
York Institute won their 10th consecutive game on Friday as they ran away with a 49-20 victory over Polk County. The Dragons rushed for 484 yards including 160 by Blake Voiles and 143 by Logan Pannell. Nathaniel Tipton threw for 108 yards and a touchdown as well. The Dragons will host 11-1 Bledsoe County in the Class 2A quarterfinals next week. Bledsoe enters 11-1 overall with their lone loss coming to the Dragons in the regular season.
Macon County
Macon County secured their second straight quarterfinal berth on Friday as the Tigers won at Upperman, 28-15. Macon County snapped a 9-game losing streak to the Bees as Zach Borders rushed for 178 yards and a touchdown along with 105 and a score from Gabe Borders. The Tigers travel to White County for next week’s quarterfinal round against the Warriors.
