Stone Memorial High School basketball senior Cade Capps put the pen to the paper Wednesday afternoon as he officially signed to play college basketball at Trevecca Nazarene University.
“I’m excited for the opportunity to go play for such a great coach and program,” said Capps. “I’m thankful for the opportunity I have.”
Trevecca is located in Nashville and competes in the NCAA Division II’s Gulf South Conference.
“Coach Kevin Carroll always came to my AAU games and high school summer games,” said Capps. “He was always there and that support during the process led me to Trevecca.”
Capps is the latest member of his family to continue his basketball career beyond high school as his mother (Jessica) played at Middle Tennessee State, sister (Emma) played at Gardner-Webb and father (Neil) coaches the Stone Memorial Panthers.
“I’m extremely proud of him,” said Neil Capps. “His sister had a lot of influence over him; he saw his sister do it and wanted to do also. As a parent, any time you see your kids achieve those goals is a pretty special thing. Cade is a homebody and likes things simple. Trevecca has a great coaching staff, and he found somewhere where he’s happy.”
Capps has his senior season with the Panthers ahead of him before starting with Trevecca in the 2025-’26 season. Capps was a Mr. Basketball finalist his junior year, an all-state tournament team member as a freshman and has scored over 2,000 career points through three seasons.
“I need to be in great shape,” said Cade Capps. “It’s going to take some time to get used to the speed of the game. It’s nice to know what the next step is instead of worrying. It’s going to be great.”
