Lady Jet Point Guard Aliyah Hawkins Signs With King University

Cumberland County Lady Jet senior Aliyah Hawkins officially signed with King University Women’s Basketball Thursday afternoon to further her career at the next level.

“I’ve been dreaming of this since I was a little girl,” said Hawkins. “It’s exciting that I get to play Division II basketball. I really liked the community and the coaches, and it’s a Christian college and felt like home.”

King is a Division II program in Johnson City that competes in the Conference Carolinas.

“It’s super exciting,” said Lady Jet head coach Randy Herring. “Our team starts with Aliyah. She’s a coach on the floor and understands the game. She brings so much to the table.”

Hawkins’ signing ceremony comes 5 games into her senior season following a first-team All-District 7-3A and district defensive MVP performance last season.

“It takes a lot of pressure off,” said Hawkins. “I can just go have fun and play basketball.”

The senior point guard has played all four seasons at Cumberland County following her decorated elementary career across the street at Martin Elementary School.

“They’ve all supported me so much,” said Hawkins. “This community has always lifted me up and it’s meant a lot to me.”
