Pickett County High School senior Callie Reeder made her college basketball plans official Friday morning as she signed with Milligan University.
“It feels like the start of a new chapter,” said Reeder. “First, we’ve got to finish this season right, but it’s very exciting for sure. Milligan has really good academics and a winning mentality. There are a lot of good aspects at Milligan.”
Milligan is an NAIA program located near Johnson City.
“Anytime a kid can continue their education and go to the next level is big,” added Pickett County head coach Brent Smith. “They’re getting a quality person and a quality player. It’s a blessing.”
Reeder had multiple college offers before deciding on the Buffaloes.
“The community, teammates and coaches have meant everything,” said Reeder. “The love and support from them are a driving factor.”
Reeder’s signing ceremony came seven games into her senior season. The Lady Bobcats are fresh off a Class 1A state championship in March, where Reeder was named state tournament MVP.
“The season is just now getting started, but now she can just focus on basketball,” said Smith. “Callie can play on the perimeter and in the post. Without her, we don’t have as much of a presence. She spreads the floor out and is a big threat.”
Reeder is one of multiple signees for the Lady Bobcats this season.
“It’s a tribute to what their work ethic is,” said Smith. “When you’ve got those kinds of kids, it’s a blessing. We’ve got several kids that can play at the next level, and I feel like Callie is going to be a bright star.”
