BOYS’ DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP NIGHT: Pickett Co., Jackson Co., Upperman & Cookeville Win District Championships

Four boys district championship trophies are headed to the Upper Cumberland following Tuesday night’s district championship game action across Tennessee:

 

Pickett County (District 7-1)

The Pickett County Bobcats took down Clay County 80-56 in Tuesday’s 7-1A title game at Livingston Academy behind 31 points from district tournament MVP and Mr. Basketball finalist Jacob Amonett, who scored 26 of those points in the first half. The Bobcats have won two consecutive district titles and went 9-1 against district foes this season.

Jackson County (District 5-2A)

The Jackson County Blue Devils are back-to-back District 5-2A champions as they defeated Smith County 54-39 in Tuesday’s championship at Monterey High School. Tournament MVP Will McCrary led his team with 20 points along with 14 by Parker Patterson. Jackson County is currently 24-2 overall and undefeated against teams from Tennessee entering the Region 3-2A tournament.

Upperman (District 7-3A)

The Class 3A #1-ranked Upperman Bees put a bow on their undefeated run through District 7-3A play Tuesday evening as they defeated Stone Memorial by a 61-57 margin. Upperman was led by tournament MVP and Mr. Basketball finalist Ty Cobb as the sophomore scored 22 points and dished out 4 assists. Upperman improves to 25-2 overall this season.

Cookeville (District 7-4A)

Four quarters weren’t enough to determine a winner in the District 7-4A championship game as Cookeville defeated Lebanon in overtime, 63-58. Jaren Davis poured in 26 points in the victory followed by Bo Maxwell with 10 to win Cookeville’s second consecutive District 7-4A championship.
