DISTRICT 7-1A TOURNAMENT: Gordonsville Girls, Clarkrange Boys Win Play-In Games

Gordonsville Takes Down Red Boiling Springs 59-35 In Girls Play-In Game; Will Face #1 Seed Pickett County In Semifinals

District 7-1A postseason basketball tipped off Tuesday evening in Livingston as the Gordonsville Tigerettes (11-15, 4-5)) defeated Red Boiling Springs (5-23, 0-9) in the tournament play-in game, 59-35.

Mckenzie Herron led Gordonsville with 18 points followed by 10 from Ashlyn Naylor and 6 by Callie Underwood. Red Boiling Springs was led by 16 points from freshman Zoe McDuffee and 11 from De Polk.

RBS held an early 5-4 lead before an Underwood transition basket gave Gordonsville a 6-5 advantage midway through the first quarter. Back-to-back three-pointers from Herron and Lily Brock late in the first quarter gave the Tigerettes an 18-9 lead entering the second quarter.

Red Boiling Springs battled back within one possession (18-15) early in the second before Gordonsville answered with a 13-2 run to close the second quarter with a 31-17 advantage.

The Tigerettes continued their run in the second half as they opened the third quarter on a 12-2 run to push their lead to 43-19 midway through the third. Gordonsville closed the third period ahead 47-24 before going on to win by a 59-35 final score.

Up next for the Tigerettes is the District 7-1A semifinal round against #1-seed and defending Class 1A state champion Pickett County on Thursday at Livingston Academy, weather permitting. Regardless of the district semifinal outcome, Gordonsville will advance to the Region 4-1A tournament next week. Red Boiling Springs closes their season at 5-23 overall.

Hot Start Leads Clarkrange Boys To 69-35 Victory Over Red Boiling Springs

The Clarkrange Buffaloes (15-13, 3-5) opened postseason play in dominant fashion Tuesday evening as they defeated Red Boiling Springs in the District 7-1A tournament play-in game at Livingston Academy by a 69-35 margin.

Five Buffaloes scored in double figures as Bryton Swallows led the way with 16 points.Braxton Sears scored 14 followed by Tristan Taylor with 12 and Mason McWhirter with 10. Ayden Cherry led Red Boiling Springs with 18 followed by Tyler Lancaster with 8.

Clarkrange took control from the jump as they opened the game on a 10-0 run in the first 1:29 of action. The Buffaloes’ lead only grew as they led 24-4 after the first quarter and 39-15 at halftime. Clarkrange cruised through the second half to win by a 69-35 final score.

Up next for Clarkrange is the district tournament semifinals on Friday at Livingston, where they’ll face #1 seed Pickett County. Tuesday’s win also clinches a berth into next week’s Region 4-1A tournament for Clarkrange regardless of Friday’s result with Pickett County.
