Girls high school basketball region semifinal action took place across Tennessee Monday night with seven Upper Cumberland programs clinching region championship berths and sectional appearances for a shot at the TSSAA state tournament next week.
Breakdown by region:
Region 4-1A
#3 Clarkrange defeated #1 and defending Class 1A state champion Pickett County, 60-57, behind 28 points from point guard Lydia Phillips.
#2 Clay County defeated #1 East Robertson, 46-42. Ella Eads led the Lady Bulldogs with 22 points.
Clay County and Clarkrange will face off on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Livingston Academy in the Region 4-1A championship game. Both teams will play in Saturday’s Class 1A sectional round against either Van Buren County (25-5) or Copper Basin (16-8).
Region 3-2A
#1 York Institute defeated #2 Westmoreland, 48-12. UCR Player of the Year Reese Beaty led the way with 19 points.
#4 Jackson County defeated #2 Smith County, 40-34, behind 13 points from Claire Williams.
Jackson County and York Institute will face off on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Monterey in the Region 3-2A championship game. Both teams will play in Saturday’s Class 2A sectional round against either East Nashville (22-1) or Pearl Cohn (16-7).
Region 4-3A
#1 White County defeated #2 Franklin County, 50-28, behind 15 points from Bella Winningham and 14 points and 9 rebounds from Ava Jones.
#4 Livingston Academy defeated #2 Upperman, 47-36. District 7-3A MVP Ellie Butler posted 23 points to lead the Lady Wildcats.
White County and Livingston will face off on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Cookeville High School in the Region 4-3A championship game. Both teams will play in Saturday’s Class 3A sectional round against either Heritage (30-2) or Lenoir City (19-12).
Region 4-4A
#2 Cookeville defeated #1 Blackman, 56-49, behind 20 points from Cara Lee Gilbert and 17 from Callie Reeder.
Cookeville will face Lebanon in the Region 4-4A championship game on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Lebanon High School. Both teams will play in Saturday’s Class 4A sectional round against either MaxPreps’ #5-ranked team in the United States Bradley Central (30-1) or Cleveland (24-7).
