The DeKalb County Tigerettes are District 7-3A champions for the second consecutive season following Friday’s 9-0 victory over Stone Memorial in the tournament championship game.
Senior lefty Kora Kilgore struck out 8 batters while surrendering only 3 hits and no walks in the win. Hannah Brown led DeKalb County offensively with a grand slam in the bottom of the third inning.
Stone Memorial freshman pitcher Kenzie Jackson was unavailable for Friday’s game after throwing 192 pitches in their 13-inning game against DeKalb County on Wednesday and 119 in their elimination game against Livingston Academy on Thursday.
After holding Stone scoreless in the top of the first inning, DeKalb County scored 5 runs in the bottom of the first to take a 5-0 lead. Brown’s grand slam in the bottom of the third plated the final four runs in 5-inning run-rule victory.
DeKalb County surrendered only one run in 25 innings of District 7-3A tournament action. They opened the tournament with a 7-0 win over White County before Wednesday’s 13-inning against Stone Memorial, where they won 2-1 before defeating Stone again on Friday by a 9-0 margin.
Up next for both teams is the Region 4-3A tournament on Monday. DeKalb County will host Marshall County while Stone Memorial will travel to Lawrence County with game times TBA.
