MIDNIGHT MADNESS: Smith County Baseball Walks Off Class 2A State Tournament Win Over Pigeon Forge After Midnight, 6-5

The Smith County Owls battled through more than 5 hours of rain delays on Wednesday before walking off their Class 2A baseball state tournament game against Pigeon Forge, 6-5.

Wednesday’s game started at approximately 9pm and wrapped up shortly after midnight Thursday morning.

The Owls trailed 3-1 after the top of the fourth before they scored four runs in the bottom-half of the frame to lead 5-3 entering the fifth. Pigeon Forge scored a run in the top of the sixth and seventh innings to tie the game at 5 runs each, setting Smith County up with a chance to walk it off in the bottom of the seventh.

Cohen Rigsby got to third base before Ben Howell stepped to the plate with two outs and delivered a walk-off single in the infield to secure Smith County’s 6-5 win.

The Owls play Milan in the consolation bracket final today at 2 p.m. at Stewarts Creek High School, weather permitting.
