The Smith County Owls secured the Region 3-2A tournament championship Saturday morning as they defeated Sequatchie County, 3-0.
A Cole Hackett two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning was the difference as he gave his team a 2-0 advantage. A Walker Hackett bunt in the bottom of the sixth scored Jacob Lapham to tack on an insurance run, giving the Owls a 3-0 lead.
Pitcher Morgan Sinclair recorded the win with 8 strikeouts, 5 hits and 4 walks in 6 and 2/3 innings of shutout baseball.
Smith County will host the Class 2A sectional round this week against the Region 4-2A runners-up, opponent and game times TBD.
