The Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association voted to seed the Division 1 state basketball tournaments based on RPI beginning in the 2027-’28 season during their meeting on Wednesday afternoon.
The TSSAA board of control approved the motion 10-2 on Wednesday to move on from the current blind-draw system that’s been in place for decades. The seeding formula will include a team’s winning percentages, opponents’ winning percentage and the winning percentage of their opponents’ opponents.
The new seeding will allow for district and region opponent rematches in the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds of the state tournament, which TSSAA previously avoided in years past.
More information will be shared as available.
