The Monterey Lady Wildcats picked up a non-district 9-3 win over Van Buren on Friday night.
The Lady Wildcats opened the scoring on an RBI single from Haylee Garthwait in the first, and scored four more runs after the Eagelettes recorded two outs. This was punctuated by an RBI triple from Ali Novak, who then scored on a Van Buren error.
The Eaglettes got a run back on an RBI double in the second, but Monterey scored three more runs on another Garthwait RBI single, an RBI double from Gracie Hastings and a run-scoring groundout from Shea Harris to push the score to 8-1.
Dixie Elrod put the finishing touches on the game with a long solo home run to left field to push that lead to 9-1, and Monterey cruised to the finish line with a 9-3 win over Van Buren.
Novak picked up a win in the circle by throwing four innings of two-run (one earned) ball with two walks and seven strikeouts, while Elrod earned the save with three four-hit innings of her own, along with five strikeouts and just one unearned run allowed.
Monterey will take on Clay County in Celina on Monday for their next contest.
