The Cookeville Cavaliers defeated Lebanon in a District 7-4A tournament elimination game Sunday afternoon at Tennessee Tech University, 6-4.
Pitcher Jackson Jones went 5 innings followed by Zolton Knight out of the bullpen, who struck out 4 batters while allowing one hit in two innings.
Cookeville jumped on the board with five innings in the bottom of the third as hits by KJ Anderson and Landen Severance and a sacrifice fly by Jack Roberts drove in all five runs to give the Cavs a 5-0 lead.
Lebanon responded with four runs in the top of the fourth to pull within one run at 5-4. Cookeville answered with a run in the bottom of the fourth via a Lebanon balk to take a 6-4 advantage.
The Cavaliers held off Lebanon from there to win by a 6-4 final score, advancing the Cavaliers to today’s elimination game with Wilson Central at 4 p.m. at Tennessee Tech University.
