Week Six (Friday, Sept. 25)

UCR GOTW Presented by Mayberry’s Furniture: #1 White County (5-0) at #2 Macon County (5-0)

Noah: Macon County 28-21

The biggest game of the year so far figures to be an instant classic. Three reasons for me to pick the Tigers: 1) X-Man 2) Batman 3) Pat Parker. 

Jacob: Macon County 28-21

What a fun one between two powerhouses in the UC. An opportunity to pave the path a home playoff game lies in the balance. I like the Tigers simply because of the home field advantage between two evenly matched squads.

Goose: Macon County 35-28

The biggest game in the Upper Cumberland so far kicks off Friday at Pat Parker Memorial Field. They’ve split their last four matchups, and this one should come down to the wire as they feel as evenly-matched as ever. Give me Macon County with a late touchdown to win a thriller.

Josh: White County 35-34 

The narrative is that UCR hates White County. No, we hate bad business. So let’s do business, White County. I was leaning to the Tigers just because I know what they are and that’s one of the best teams in Class 4A. They’re proven. They’re well coached, and they have playmakers everywhere, and absolute men on the LOS. But then, White County has those things as well AND Tucker Pinion didn’t do much last week. I think that changes on Friday night. Pat Parker will be the best place to watch a game this week and we don’t have to pay $400 to showcase it. Maybe we can do the same for White County soon because the Warriors win a close one on the road and put themselves in the driver’s seat to the #1 seed. 

Justin: Macon County 28-27

 

UCR Midstate GOTW Presented by Turner Tow Pros: #4 Jackson County (5-0) at #3 Gordonsville (4-1)

Noah: Gordonsville 28-14

The Tigers have shown an ability to control games against region opponents, including last week’s dominant win. Jackson County is the number one contender, but the Tigers take a stranglehold on Region 4/2A.

Jacob: Gordonsville 28-14

The Tigers absolutely dominated Cannon County in a game we thought might be close last week. We know Jackson County is better this season and expect this one to be a good one as well. Can the Blue Devils slow down the Gordonsville rushing attack? I think Gordonsville defends their home field. 

Goose: Gordonsville 35-21

Perhaps the biggest matchup of the season in Region 4-2A sees Jackson County head to the Jungle to face Gordonsville in a UC top-5 matchup. Jackson County features multiple playmakers on the perimeter including quarterback Colt Loftis, running back Braiden Dodson and WR/DB Gavin Clinard. However, football starts up front and Gordonsville has been impressive in the trenches through the first five weeks of the season. I’ll take the Tigers to grind one out.

Josh: Gordonsville 42-21

I called Jackson County as a top two seed in this region when I saw them play Livingston at their jamboree. Their issue? The line of scrimmage. They’re not bad there, but that’s where this game will be won for Gordonsville and once you get behind, Gordonsville just takes control. Nothing about the result will take anything away from how solid the Blue Devils are, but rather how good Gordonsville is. 

Justin: Gordonsville 28-27

 

UCR2: DeKalb County (3-2) at #5 Upperman (3-2)

Noah: Upperman 35-7

Two teams in different spots. Upperman bounces back and shows they are still a force to be reckoned with in the region.

Jacob: Upperman 28-0

The Bees did not play their best game last week and they always respond well after a loss. In the way this week is a DeKalb County team that are still trying to find their way a little bit. I like the Bees to control this one. 

Goose: Upperman 42-10

A difficult stretch of the schedule for DeKalb County continues this Friday as they head to Baxter. Upperman should bounce back from last week’s trip to Beech in the win column.

Josh: Upperman 35-7

DeKalb started off so well on the year and had a ton of momentum and attention playing Macon last week. Upperman will look to solidify themselves as a top seed this week in Region 4 with two big potential top seeds still left to play in Macon and White County.

Justin: Upperman 42 DeKalb County 17

 

UCR3: Pickett County (0-5) at Livingston Academy (3-2)

Noah: Livingston 42-0

Hogeye rolls on homecoming.

Jacob: Livingston 48-0

Wildcats get back in the win column in a big way. 

Goose: Livingston 49-6

Livingston and Pickett County are in two different spots this season, and the Wildcats should get it done on homecoming.

Josh: Livingston 56-6

Livingston a lot, Pickett a little. Two different programs in two very different places. Livingston played their most complete game last week at White County. Craig is going to have an opportunity to call a lot of names on the roster for Livingston. 

Justin: LA 49-0

 

Green Hill Sports Network: Cookeville (2-3) at Green Hill (3-2)

Noah: Green Hill 24-21

Green Hill is a very tough place to go on the road and win, while I like the Cavs chances to compete, ultimately I lean towards the home side.

Jacob: Green Hill 28-20

Cookeville is a good football team, I fully believe that. However, they’ve played the toughest schedule in the UC to this point and that continues tonight against a Green Hill team who is coming off a loss against Gallatin possibly dashing their hopes of the one seed. Green Hill takes a close one at home.

Goose: Green Hill 27-24

Another big-time Region 4-6A matchup awaits the Cavaliers as they head to Green Hill. This one’s a toss up, and I’ll lean with the Hawks on their home field.

Josh: 24-21 Green Hill

If this game was in Cookeville, I’d go with Cookeville. But it’s not, and Green Hill is just a play or two better on Friday night.
