WCTE Season of FREE Documentary Film Screenings Opens Nov. 11

First Screening of Autism in Love Offers a Rare Glimpse into the Emotional Lives of Adults on the Autism Spectrum

Indie Lens Pop-Up, presented by the Independent Television Service (ITVS) and Independent Lens, and WCTE Upper Cumberland PBS are excited to kick off a new season of free documentary film screenings at the Cookeville Performing Arts Center.  Formerly “Community Cinema”, Indie Lens Pop-Up is a neighborhood series that brings people together for film screenings and community-driven conversations.  To open the season, WCTE is offering an advance screening of Autism in Love, a film by Matt Fuller, on November 11.

In Autism in Love, four adults at different places on the autism spectrum open up their personal lives as they navigate dating and romantic relationships. Eye-opening, first-person portrayals show that despite many challenges faced by those with autism, love can find a way. Through these stories, we see that autism isn’t a one-size-fits-all disorder, and just like neurotypical people (those without developmental disabilities), those on the spectrum also experience the complexity, heartache, and joy that all come when making a romantic connection.  Autism in Love was called “affectionate but clear-eyed” by The Hollywood Reporter, and premieres on Independent Lens on WCTE Monday, January 11.

The Indie Lens Pop-Up screening event on November 11 opens at 5:30 p.m. with light refreshments.  The film will begin at 6 p.m. and will be followed by a brief discussion.  This event is FREE and open to the public.  The Cookeville Performing Arts Center is located at 10 E. Broad St. in Cookeville.  Visit wcte.org/indielens for the complete season schedule and film trailers.
