Cookeville Celebrates ART Prowl

Community Celebrates ART Prowl November 13-14

Bright yellow ART Prowl signs line Cookeville’s downtown streets, signaling the excitement of local art to come—and it’s coming soon!  The 15th annual ART Prowl studio and gallery tour runs Friday, November 13 from 12-8 p.m. and Saturday, November 14 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at various locations in the Historic WestSide and downtown districts. Charity’s Bake Shop and Café at 11 North Oak is the ART Prowl Welcome Center, where maps, brochures, t-shirts, and activity information will be available.

At 18 Cookeville locations, over 30 Upper Cumberland artists will display and sell their work.  For artists, this is the perfect opportunity to meet the public and share their processes.  Artists displaying works in painting are Arlene Dubo, Donna Magadov, and Robin Ford.  Ceramics artists include Marilee Hall, Jay Frankenfield, John Sellberg, Jackie Ray Cantrell, and Sandy Miller.  Breanna Kincaid and Katelynn Dunn will show their work in fibers.  Artists displaying and selling jewelry include Jane Forkum, Kip Kniep, Sadie Wang, Kathe Reed-Nelson, and Stephanie Barnes.  Bob Carlsen will show is work in wood, and Linda Johnson and Brad Sells will present work in sculpture.  The following artist groups are also part of this year’s Prowl: Artshop 13 and Welcome Center Gallery Artists in painting, TTU and Appalachian Center for Craft in various fine craft media, Cumberland Art Society in painting and mixed media, 4D Studio Group in upcycled metal and mixed media, Petrillio Studio Group in paper and mixed media, and Cookeville High School Emerging Artists in mixed media.   Prowlers will find engagement in the artist demonstrations found throughout the Prowl, as well as the free kids’ activities on Saturday.

“Cookeville’s independent artists, like our small independent businesses, add to the variety, diversity and richness that make the WestSide so much fun,” say Tom and Jennifer Furtsch, owners of Father Tom’s Pub on North Cedar.  Father Tom’s, along with numerous other neighborhood businesses, restaurants, and organizations, is a Community pARTner, showing strong support of local art by offering discounts, specials, and/or activities during the two-day event.  A full list of these Community pARTners’ special ART Prowl offers is available at artprowl.com and in the ART Prowl brochure.

ART Prowl is the flagship event of Art ‘Round Tennessee, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the arts in the Upper Cumberland.  This event is supported by a grant from the Cookeville Arts Council, the WestSide Business Association, a number of generous sponsors and community members, and, of course, artists.  For all event information, pick up a brochure at the Welcome Center, visit artprowl.com, and follow ART Prowl on Facebook.
