Second WestSide Scavenger Hunt this Saturday

Scavenging fun is returning to Cookeville’s historic WestSide district this Saturday.

The second of three monthly scavenger hunts, presented by Cookeville Leisure Services, begins at the Cookeville Depot Museum, where participants can stop by between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to pick up entry forms with thumbnail images and clues leading to several businesses and organizations within walking distance. The goal is to find each image, replicate it with a digital camera or cell phone and then return completed forms to the depot to be entered in a gift basket drawing.

“We want to get people moving and exploring history,” Ashley McKee, Cookeville museums education specialist, said of the fifth annual event. “Not only do we have some great prizes from our destinations, we have some cool goodies from our local partners, including the Cookeville History Museum, CityScape, Keep Putnam County Beautiful Clean Commission and Streamliner Creative Group. Come join the fun.”

While January’s scavenger hunt featured six destinations, February’s will have even more, McKee said. Participation is free, and the depot will be providing hot chocolate and cookies. The activity, which attracts families, student groups and more for a fun and educational walk around the historic district, will be held rain or shine.

The third WestSide Scavenger Hunt will be held March 11.

The Cookeville Depot, which was built in 1909 and is on the National Register of Historic Places, is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at 116 W. Broad St. Admission is free. To learn more, call 931-528-8570 or visit www.cookevilledepot.com.
