After Dark Race For The Park

Race for Dogwood Park on Aug. 11

COOKEVILLE – Runners again have an opportunity to race under the stars to benefit Dogwood Park.

The 10th annual After Dark Race for the Park is scheduled for Aug. 11. Proceeds go toward events and improvements at the popular downtown oasis.

The 8K run for ages 13 and up begins at 8:08 p.m. at Dogwood Park, 30 E. Broad St. Early registration is $30 or $35 after July 30. A one-mile Kids Fun Run for ages 4-12 takes place beforehand at 7:30 p.m. Participation is free, but registration is required. Those wishing to support the race without running may do so for $25.

Registration may be completed online (for a $3 fee) on the Cookeville Leisure Services website, www.cookeville-tn.gov/ls. (Look for the link to sign up.) Participants should register by July 30 to ensure they receive a race shirt.

The After Dark Race for the Park idea was conceived by former city councilman and current State Rep. Ryan Williams and wife Abby, who served on the master planning committee for the expansion of Dogwood Park. It was intended to be a way the community could become involved in the park’s growth and development while also promoting health through regular exercise.

The race features luminaries along historic Dixie Avenue, as well as chip timing, immediate results feedback, downloadable race results, traffic control by police officers, and water stations. For more information, call Cookeville Leisure Services at 931-520-4386.
