Homeschool Fitness returns to Cane Creek Gymnasium
COOKEVILLE – Cookeville Leisure Services will be offering an eight-week fitness class for homeschool students on Fridays beginning Sept. 8 from 1-2 p.m. at the Cane Creek Gymnasium.
Homeschool Fitness, first offered last spring as a drop-in class, is for grades K-8. It provides a physical education option to help homeschoolers fill that curriculum requirement.
“Our fall class is different in that we are offering it for a one-hour period instead of two,” Reagan Austin, Cookeville Leisure Services athletic coordinator, said. “Also, we are encouraging preregistration so we will know how many students to prepare for. This will help our staff make the class more structured.”
The cost is $25 for the eight-week class, which spans Sept. 8-Oct. 27. The registration deadline is Aug. 25. Drop-in students will pay $5 per class.

“We will be offering different sports each week such as volleyball, pickleball, soccer, basketball, T-ball and disc golf, among other gym activities, to give students an introduction to those sports they may not be familiar with,” Lori Munson, Cane Creek Gymnasium staff, said.
Grades K-3 will be grouped separately from grades 4-8 in age-appropriate activities.
“We hope the students and parents will enjoy the new format of the program,” Austin said.
Cane Creek Gymnasium is located at 180 C C Camp Road in Cookeville. Regular hours are Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m.-10 p.m., and Sunday, 1-6 p.m. Open gym is available any time the facility is not programed or rented, and admission is $1. Activities include basketball, soccer, volleyball, pickleball, cornhole and league sports.
