Pedestrian Struck in Crossville Results in Fatality

PRESS RELEASE from City of Crossville:

A traffic accident, in the City of Crossville this morning, resulted in the death of Crossville resident, 85 year old Vertie McNeeley, who was attempting to walk across U.S. Highway 127 / Main Street, in the area of the Cumberland County Courthouse.

Witnesses report that traffic was stopped on Main Street, at the 4 th Street red light. As Mr. McNeeley stepped into traffic, around the front passenger corner of a semi-truck, the truck began to move under the green light, resulting in Mr. McNeeley being struck, knocked to the ground and subsequently run over.

First responders immediately began life-saving efforts and Mr. McNeeley was transported by EMS to Cumberland Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries. The investigation continues, however no criminal charges are expected to result, at this time.
