Season’s Final Cookeville Community Band Concert Monday at Dogwood Park

Season’s final Cookeville Community Band concert Monday at Dogwood Park

COOKEVILLE – “American Landscapes” is the theme of the final Cookeville Community Band concert of the summer season.

The concert, presented by Cookeville Leisure Services, will be held Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the Dogwood Performance Pavilion in Dogwood Park. Admission is free.

“Concerts in the park are a great opportunity to experience live music in a beautiful setting,” Chad McDonald, Leisure Services cultural arts superintendent, said. “The Dogwood Performance Pavilion was designed especially for live music, and the Community Band series is a perfect fit for the venue.”

Some of the song selections include “From Maine to Oregon,” “Red River Valley,” “Blue Ridge Reel” and “Three Stars of Tennessee.”

“We hope you will join us as Dr. Timothy Heath, director of athletic bands at Samford University, celebrates the beautiful landscapes of America through music,” Cookeville Community Band members said on their Facebook page.

The Cookeville Community Band consists of musicians from the Upper Cumberland area – people who enjoy taking part in the American concert band tradition. Members come from every walk of life and age, from high school students to senior citizens.

“The band was formed in response to the construction of the performance pavilion in 2002,” McDonald said. “Each benefits the other, and the series has been very popular.”

Also taking the Dogwood Park stage this summer, in addition to the Cookeville Community Band, are Believers Bluegrass & Gospel (as part of the Third Thursday in the Park concert series) on Aug. 16; Big Band Sound Jazz Orchestra on Aug. 6 and Sept. 3; and Bryan Symphony Orchestra on Sept. 2.

All concerts are free and begin at 7:30 p.m.

Attendees may bring lawn chairs and blankets or take advantage of the tiered permanent seating. Concessions are available.
