Baxter Fire Department to Receive AFG Grant

Baxter, Tenn.— The City of Baxter is proud to announced $18,256 in federal funding for the
Baxter Fire Department. The grant was awarded through the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program, which is designed to help first responders improve their capability to respond to fires and emergencies of all types.

Our community is fortunate to have brave men and women who risk their lives in order to help
save others. The Baxter Fire Department is very deserving of this grant to purchase new fire hose and nozzles to make sure our firefighters have the needed equipment while on the job. We thank the Baxter Fire Department for the selfless service they provide to our community.

The Baxter Fire Department will use this $18,256 federal grant to improve operations and safety by purchasing new fire hose and the replacement of nozzles. This equipment plays a key role in providing firefighters the needed equipment to extinguish fire. The City of Baxter will be
providing a 5% match amounting to $912 on this grant. “As a fire department we try to go above
and beyond to find cost-effective ways to improve the equipment that we utilize in order to
provide better services and creating safer working environments,” said Fire Chief Matt White.

Baxter Fire Department would like to extend their deepest gratitude to State Representative Ryan Williams and Senator Paul Bailey for their support of the AFG Grant and their continued support to the fire department in our community. Chief Matt White would like thank the Mayor John Martin and the Board of Alderman for their continued support of the fire department.

The AFG Grant Program provides direct funding assistance to fire departments, State Fire
Training Academies, and non-affiliated EMS organizations. The purpose of the Assistance to
Firefighters Program is to protect the health and safety of the public and firefighting personnel
against fire and fire-related hazards.
