PUTNAM COUNTY, TN – (April 19, 2019) After forty-six hours of searching the rural areas in Overton County, the Overton County Sheriff’s Office and Putnam County Sheriff’s Office are now treating the SILVER ALERT as a search and rescue mission at this time as well as a missing persons investigation. Over 100 – 200 volunteers, the Overton County Sheriff’s Office, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, Tennessee Emergency Management Agency, Tennessee Highway Patrol, and the 13th Judicial District Attorney’s Office are still searching for Dr. Smith. Anyone with information regarding Dr. Smith’s whereabouts should call the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office at (931) 528-8484 ext.1 or the Overton County Sheriff’s Office (931) 823-5635 ext.1 IMMEDIATELY.
At approximately 11:00 PM on April 17, 2019, Dr. James L. Smith, 83, of Cookeville, TN was reported missing to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office. Dr. Smith is a well-known respected businessman with a local dental practice. His last known whereabouts were at his farm in Overton County. The PCSO Helicopter Unit found his gray 2001 Chevy Duramax 4 door pickup truck between Puncheon Creek Lane and Copeland Cove Road yesterday morning.
