Welcome to the Weekend!

Well, the weatherman says it’s going to be soggy, so it’s a good weekend for WCTE’s Great TV Auction June 6-9 and June 13-16 starting at 7PM. Get all the details here! They have some pretty awesome programming throughout the year and work to support the entire region through various programs. They can use our support to make these efforts possible.

Country Farm and Home Center in Byrdstown will be hosting a “Holland Grill Demo” tomorrow (Saturday) and invite everyone to come by for samples of it’s cooking capabilities and will have a special too if you buy one. Details here.

The Cordell Hull Birthplace State Historic Park has a multitude of events going on this weekend – many in the dry. On Saturday The Friends of Cordell Hull will be hosting their Annual Meeting at the park beginning at 5PM and will be having a cookout (not sure what the rain plan is – but I’m sure they have one). You can find links to all the event details from here! There is a lot going on this summer around the area. Saturday is alsoFREE FISHING DAY in Tennessee – but stay safe!

Let us not forget Dad with everything going on! Next Sunday, June 16th is Father’s Day. SHOP LOCAL! So many options of great things to gift dad with!

The June Chamber Board of Directors meeting will be held Thursday, June 13th at Pier 42 Restaurant at 11AM.

Honest Jon’s BBQ is having live music tonight (Friday). Forbus General Store is having a Fish FRYday from 11AM-8PM every FRIDAY. The Dixie Cafe will have live music tonight and Saturday night.  The Country Kitchen will have live music on Saturday evening. You can find a list of area eateries here- check them out soon!

The Friends of Cordell Hull will have their Annual Meeting On Saturday June 8 at 5PM at the Park.The meeting is open to anyone interested in the park or would like to learn more. The organization will be providing snacks. 

Don’t forget! Sgt. Alvin C. York State Park also have events going on throughout the season. It’s also time to register for some of the events for the Independence Day Celebration on June 29th. Just call Town Hall. (931) 864-6215.

DAV Meets the 2nd Saturday of each month! All veterans are invited to come and visit and decide if they want to participate. They will meet at the Welcome Center at 9:30AM.
American Legion meets every 2nd Tuesday of the month at 7 P.M. at the Dixie Cafe.
Chamber Board May Meeting will be on Thursday, June 13 @ 11AM at Pier 42 Restaraunt

Board of Education Meets June 10 at 6:30PM at the Director of Schools Office
County Commission Meets June 17 at 6PM at the Pickett Co. Library.

The Pickett County Library is great free resource anytime of year.  They have loads of books, videos, cd’s, and so much more.  Their Genealogy Room is also a good place to go and get to know where you came from.  If it weren’t for our ancestors’ hard work, we wouldn’t enjoy the life we have today.  The Cordell Hull Birthplace & Museum State Park has a fantastic exhibit as well as a very nice trail to be enjoyed year round.

Against the Flow Kayak Outfitters can set you up with a nice Kayak or offer you a tour. Our area marinas have a variety of water sport activities to offer and a whole lot more.

If you are planning to be married on Dale Hollow Lake, remember The Farm at East Port Marina & Resort event venue with a capacity of seating 300 people are here to help!

If you are looking for places to shop, remember our local stores.  Drop by see what all they have to offer – after all, you will save time by not driving so far to browse.  This is a brief list of our Chamber Member businesses at this time that offer shopping.Carobella Salon, SpaRustic Roots Boutique, Teased Salon & Spa Sells Family StoreMa & Pa’s Gift ShackCountry Farm & Home CenterDavidson’s Discount Drugs, and Garrett’s Drug Center have some wonderful items to browse/purchase besides the obvious items. Dale Hollow Kwik Stop, and Dale Hollow Shell offer many convenience items and a deli, plus fishing supplies and more!
