Putnam County 4-H Members Compete at Tennessee Jr. Livestock Beef Expo

The 2019 Tennessee Junior Livestock Exposition celebrated its 48th show in July. “Expo” as it is often referred, is one of the largest and most successful events of its kind in the nation. It has had a serious impact on thousands of people including not only the 4-H and FFA members, but also their families and many others. Expo, and the activities connected with the program, provides Tennessee youth with opportunities to compete and receive recognition for their efforts and to gain knowledge and skills in selecting, feeding, training, showing, marketing and eventually breeding livestock. Sometimes those of us connected with the livestock business talk about the quality and number of animals exhibited.  However, more importantly, expo gives our youth the opportunity to make new friends, while gaining responsibility and citizenship skills.

Three 4-H members from Putnam County recently participated in the 2019 Central Region and Tennessee Junior Livestock Exposition in the Beef events held in Murfreesboro during the week of July 10-12.  Individuals showing included Riley Glascock, Mary Carter Shirley, and Cain Ealey.  In addition to showing their animals they had the opportunity to participate in a showmanship contest and a Skillathon contest.
