Byrdstown-Pickett County Update Sept. 18, 2020

Welcome to the Weekend! Beautiful weather is in the forecast and much cooler temperatures are on the way…well, just maybe they have already arrived. A few little housekeeping items before we get into the what’s going on stuff. We are still needing survey’s from our Chamber Member businesses interested in being the Business of the Month. If you have already sent your form in, if we did NOT respond, please check with us. It has been brought to my attention that our email filter has been not allowing some to get through. More information is below. Second, it’s time of year we prepare for the next tourism season. Ad sales for the Dale Hollow Explorer are open. If you want to be a part of the Pickett County section, contact us during normal business hours and we will get the information over to you. Finally, we will be holding our 3rd Quarter ID and JECD Board Meetings on Tuesday, September 29th at 11AM here at the Welcome Center.

The Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area will have their “Haunted in the Hills Storytelling Festival” this year September 17-19 (NOW), just in a little different style. Get the details here.

Coming up this weekend: Obey River Grill at East Port Marina is having BrainBlast Trivia on Friday evenings each week until the marina closes for the season on November 1. There will be live music at the Dixie Cafe Friday and Saturday evenings. Forbus General Store has Fish Fryday – Friday. York Country Store is having an all you care to eat catfish special on Friday and Saturday evenings. K&S Farm will be open Saturday from 11-4 come check out some of their new soaps all made from farm grown products: Sunflower & Honey loofah goats milk and Honey & Lemongrass. They also have grab and go baskets. (they are open other days by appointment). You can reach them at 860-608-1536 or 931-864-0504. Ritter Family Farms will be at the Farmers Market on Saturday with fresh local produce (also on Thursdays). Make sure you check out the many other wonderful places to grab a bite to eat in the area. The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association called us this morning and asked that we share that September 26 will be the National Prayers March 2020. Details can be found here. They will be following CDC guidelines.

The Town of Byrdstown 3k/5k Walk/Run sponsorship is open for about another week. If you want to sponsor and we haven’t asked, please let us know and we will get the information to you. A great big “THANK YOU!” to all who help support this effort and the work of the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The event will take place on Oct. 10, 2020.

Remember UPCOMING EVENTS! Good Neighbors Theatre has opted to do a “Social Distancing Gala” this year and are participating in the Rollercoaster Yard Sale October 1-3. They will have plenty of company during this time frame along the route. The sale will be a little different this year due to COVID-19, but will still be wonderful. WCTE’s Haunted Half Marathon is virtual this year! You can get more information here! It will take place for Oct. 1-31. Dale Holloween will take place on Oct. 31 at Town Plaza. You may contact Town Hall for details – 931-864-6215. The Fall Dale Hollow Bass Classic will be held the weekend of November 14 & 15, 2020. We will start taking entries on Oct. 1 with in person entries taking earliest flight numbers. Mail in entries are being put in line as they come in and will be addressed following the walk-ins.

The Business of the Month program is underway! If you wish to be considered for an upcoming month – WE NEED YOUR INFORMATION!!! At this time, very few have sent in their forms! If you are a Chamber Member and have not done so yet, please fill out our survey – you can access it here. IF YOU DO NOT SEND IN THE SURVEY, YOU WILL NOT BE INCLUDED IN THE GROUP THAT THE COMMITTEE WILL CHOOSE FROM. Also, if any business is following the Tennessee Pledge rules and would like a poster to put up, OR OTHER ITEMS, stop by our office and let us know.
