Algood Police: Walmart Shoplifter Arrested After Officer Deploys Taser

ALGOOD, T.N. — Algood Police say an officer deployed his Taser in the Walmart parking lot when an alleged shoplifter tried to run from authorities, according to a news release.  Officers responded to Walmart on February 12th after the suspect, who has been identified as Michael Durand, tried to leave the store without paying for merchandise, according to a news release.

Police say Durand attempted to run from officers in the parking lot and one of the officers deployed his Taser.  Durand was taken into custody and charged with resisting stop, halt, frisk, according to a news release.  Police say he was also cited for shoplifting and banned from Walmart properties.

Approximately $700 worth of merchandise was recovered and returned to Walmart, according to a news release.  Durand was transported to the Putnam County Detention Center without further incident.
