Cookeville Police Investigating Shooting On Bill Smith Road

COOKEVILLE, T.N. — The Cookeville Police Department is investigating a shooting that happened just after 1am on February 12th on Bill Smith Road, according to a news release.  Officers were called to the scene after receiving a report of gunshots being fired in the area.

When officers arrived, they determined that 22-year-old Jonathan Ownby, of Cookeville, had been shot one time in the abdomen, according to a news release.

During the course of the investigation, police say they determined that three suspects entered the home on Bill Smith Road and a struggle ensued which resulted in Ownby being shot.  Two other people were inside the home when the shooting occurred, according to police.

The three suspects reportedly fled the area prior to police arriving on the scene.  Ownby was transported to Cookeville Regional Medical Center by a private vehicle, according to a news release.  Police say he was treated and released.
