PUTNAM COUNTY, TENN- Dr. Mark Rodgers has been named the new Words On Wheel (W.O.W.) Bus coordinator and plans to continue the mission of literacy and delivering books to the children who live in Putnam County.
In May 2019, the W.O.W. Bus officially launched. Mrs. Barbara Greeson served as the organizer and facilitator of the W.O.W. Bus from the start of the program while Dr. Rodgers volunteered driving the bus and helping on-site. Dr. Rodgers has been driving a school bus for the Putnam County School System for the past five years. Mrs. Greeson has officially stepped into retirement and Dr. Rodgers agreed to carry on her passion and the mission of the program.
“I have been involved with the W.O.W. Bus from the very beginning, so I was more than happy to step in. My hope is to continue to build on to the success of this program,” said Dr. Rodgers. “Just this summer, we delivered 2,000 books in various locations. We have the support of our community and they donate books. We are grateful for that.”
Book donations are accepted all year long at the Board of Education, 1400 E. Spring St. in Cookeville.
“There is a tote there and anyone can drop books that are in good condition and appropriate to the program,” said Dr. Rodgers. “Without book donations, the W.O.W. Bus can’t operate, so we appreciate our community coming together to donate. One of my greatest joys is telling the students where the books come from, and they want to know too. It makes them feel good that people want to donate books that they can enjoy.”
