The defending Class 1A state champion Gordonsville Tigerettes continued their state tournament winning streak Wednesday morning as they took down Wartburg in 5 innings, 10-0.
Tigerette catcher Bailey Stewart led Gordonsville offensively as she went 2-3 with a double, a triple, 3 runs scored and an RBI along with pitcher Kailey Plumlee going 3-3 with 2 doubles and 2 RBIs. Plumlee also struck out 11 batters in 4 innings of work.
Upperman softball wrapped up their season in the Class 3A tournament as they fell to Dyer County in an elimination game, 9-4.
Dyer County jumped out to an 8-0 lead after the top of the third inning before the Lady Bees posted 4 runs in the bottom of the fourth as a single by Kirra Hancock scored Gracie Butler followed by a Reese Kimmel liner to score Addy McElhaney.
Izzy Veigel followed with a 2-run homer to cut Upperman’s deficit to 8-4, but the Lady Bees got no closer as Dyer County held on to win by a 9-4 final score.
Gordonsville is scheduled to face the winner of Wartburg/Wayne County on Thursday morning. The Wartburg/Wayne County game was originally scheduled to start at 4:30 on Wednesday night but is under a weather delay. More updates will be shared as available.
