District tournament baseball and softball action is well underway across the Upper Cumberland with two baseball championships already secured. Below is a breakdown of each district going into Tuesday, May 6:
District 7-1A
The Gordonsville Tigers defeated the Pickett County Bobcats in Sunday’s District 7-1A baseball championship game, 15-1. Colton Bennett was named tournament MVP for his efforts across the three games. Both teams advance to the Region 4-1A tournament beginning Thursday at Crump Paris Park. Thursday will be Pickett County’s first region tournament appearance in 17 years as they’ll face East Robertson at 4 p.m. followed by Gordonsville vs. Jo Byrns at 7.
In softball action, the #1-seeded and back-t0-back state champion Gordonsville Tigerettes are set to play in Wednesday’s championship game against the winner of Tuesday’s Clarkrange and Clay County game at 5:30 at Crump Paris Park.
District 5-2A
The York Institute Dragons won back-to-back elimination games against Smith County on Sunday and Monday to clinch a district championship and region tournament berth. Smith County won game 1 on Thursday, 8-2, before the Dragons responded to win on Sunday 7-6 and 3-2 on Monday in Carthage. York scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning in game two to win via a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch.
York will face Watertown in the baseball championship game at Watertown at 6 p.m.
In softball, Smith County faces Monterey in an elimination game at Watertown at 5 p.m.
District 7-3A
Upperman baseball won their fourth consecutive District 7-3A championship on Monday as they defeated Stone Memorial, 7-4. The Bees and Panthers are both set to play in the Region 4-3A tournament beginning Friday in Baxter.
In softball, multiple days of inclement weather delayed the opening round but action has resumed at DeKalb County High School. #2 Stone Memorial defeated Livingston in the winners’ bracket on Monday, 4-0. #1 seed DeKalb County takes the field on Tuesday at 5:30 against White County in the winners’ bracket while Livingston and Upperman open the day at 3 p.m. in an elimination game.
District 7-4A
Cookeville baseball wrapped up their 2025 season Monday evening as they fell in the losers’ bracket finale to Wilson Central, 5-3. The Cavaliers fell in the opening round to Stewarts Creek before defeating LaVergne and Lebanon in tournament action.
Cookeville softball is set to face LaVergne on Tuesday at 5 p.m. in an elimination game at Stewarts Creek High School.
