TSSAA Board Of Control To Meet August 19

The TSSAA Board of Control will meet on Monday, August 19 at the TSSAA office building in Hermitage. The meeting will begin at 9:00 a.m.

The Board will review and vote on approval of financial reports for the sports of baseball, softball, soccer, track & field, and tennis. The official audit for the 2018-2019 school year will be provided to the Board for approval along with a complete review of the auditor’s report. In conjunction with the audit, the Board will be asked to approve the proposed budget for the 2019-2020 school year.

Skyuka Hall High School is requesting membership in the association. It is a private school in Hamilton County and has been in existence for six years and is a Category 3 school accredited by SAIS and TAIS. Their total 9-12 enrollment is approximately 50 students. If approved, they plan to participate in all sports sanctioned by TSSAA except football, tennis, and wrestling. If approved, they will compete in Division II, Class A (East Region), District 2 in baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, track and field, and girls’ volleyball. They will compete in the East Region in bowling.

A total of five schools will be appearing before the Board to appeal sanctions placed on various athletic programs at each school due to unsportsmanlike incidents that occurred last school year.

Antioch High School will be present to appeal the sanctions placed on the school on November 1, 2018, due to the incident that occurred between John Overton High School and Antioch High School during their football contest on October 26, 2018.

Scotts Hill High School will be present to appeal the restrictive probation placed on the boys’ basketball program for the 2019-20 school year due to an unsportsmanlike incident that occurred during the boys’ basketball contest against Adamsville High School on February 5, 2019.

Westwood High School will be present to appeal the restrictive probation placed on the boys’ basketball program for the 2019-20 school year due to an unsportsmanlike incident that occurred during the boys’ basketball contest against Fairley High School on Friday, January 25, 2019.

Melrose High School will be present to appeal the sanctions placed on the boys’ basketball program due to an unsportsmanlike incident that occurred during the boys’ basketball contest against Wooddale High School on Friday, January 25, 2019.

Haywood High School will be present to appeal the sanctions placed on the baseball program due to an unsportsmanlike incident that occurred during the baseball contest against Sequatchie County High School on Wednesday, May 22, 2019, at the TSSAA Spring Fling.
