STILL ACCEPTING VOLUNTEERS FOR TORNADO CLEANUP EFFORTS

PUTNAM COUNTY, TENN – As local officials continue to work in support of survivors of the Super Tuesday tornado that devastated Putnam County, they also continue to urge survivors to sign up for two-way messaging with emergency operations officials.

“We keep finding people every day that have not seen or heard our messages and are not signed up for our survivor portal and two-way messaging. We urge anyone who knows of a survivor to please contact them and make sure they know about our survivor resources on the website, at www.putnamcountytn.gov/survivors, or call us at (931) 646-INFO,” stated Brandon Smith, of Putnam County Emergency Services.

Smith also urged anyone interested in helping to continue to volunteer.

“In the beginning, we had more volunteers than we had work for them to do in that moment. Almost all of the survivors asked for us to give them time with their friends and family, to just spend time on their property looking for valuables and personal belongings. Now that they have had some time to sort and look for those things, and many of the state and national volunteer groups have gone, this is when our community can really help best in the damaged areas and help survivors clean up their property and begin to look to the future,” Smith

Volunteers will be out in the field working this weekend, and again next weekend. If you would like to volunteer, visit our webpage at www.putnamcountytn.gov/volunteer or you can go to the Putnam County Fairgrounds to volunteer. We ask that all volunteers come with work shoes or boots and appropriate attire to work. You can report to the fairgrounds to volunteer between 8am and 4pm, Tuesday through Sunday.
