The defending Class 1A softball champion Gordonsville Tigerettes began their title defense Tuesday afternoon with a 12-run victory as they defeated Halls 13-1.
Junior pitcher Kailey Plumlee recorded 15 strikeouts in 6 and 1/3 innings while surrendering 1 hit and 3 walks in the win.
Halls took an early 1-0 lead via a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning. Gordonsville responded in the top of the second with 7 runs to take a 7-1 lead. The Tigerettes tacked on 6 runs over the final 3 innings to win by a 13-1 final score.
Up next for Gordonsville is an 11 a.m. showdown with the Wartburg Central Lady Bulldogs, who defeated Wayne County 3-1 on Tuesday.
